Meet Our Designer: Evelyne Julienne
|
It is creative director Evelyne Julienne who defines the Yves Delorme look. As the artistic force behind all of our collections, Evelyne has been creating new designs season after season for almost a quarter of a century.
Sources & InspirationsEverything is a potential source of inspiration for an artist. In fact, says Evelyne, she has “too many ideas. I am always looking at everything around me, my mind is always working.” She absorbs images and ideas from books, exhibits, gardens, archival materials, history, cultural events … the list is endless. She may bring home a feather collected on a hike, or pick up a shell from the beach, or snap a photo of an appealing architectural detail. These little bits and pieces may end up in her studio, an airy room in a small structure near her home in Versailles, to appear later as an element in a new design.
From Idea to Inception: A Calendar of CreationBy the time a particular new design appears in store windows around the world, Evelyne has long since moved on. The process of developing a collection begins more than a year in advance. January: Ideas ripen and Evelyne chooses the themes around which she will build the following year’s collection.
February: Evelyne constructs idea boards for each theme that bring together photos, materials, colors, and designs that she will expand upon.
March: The first meeting for a collection takes place: Evelyne presents her inspiration boards. Certain directions are abandoned and others are pursued.
April–June: Monthly meetings continue as designs evolve. Initial prototypes are critiqued and designs selected. In June, the team sees the first fabric and pattern fragments. Sample products are sewn or “made up,” which allows decisions to be made about colors and finishes.
July: The last collection meeting is aimed at assessing all the models. Taking into account commercial and artistic objectives, the decision is made on which designs will be part of the new collection.
